Terms of Service

These terms are an agreement between you and NepLink, based in Virginia, United States (“NepLink”, “we”, “us”). They cover the NepLink app and neplink.app. By creating an account, buying a ticket or using NepLink, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use NepLink.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Who can use NepLink

• You must be at least 18.
• Give true information, and use your own university email and proof documents.
• Keep one account per person and keep your sign-in private. You’re responsible for what happens on your account.

Some account types and features need review. We may approve a request, ask for more, decline it or block it. Only a NepLink admin can approve someone as an NSA president.

NSAs and their leaders

NSAs are independent student groups. NepLink doesn’t run them. We aren’t affiliated with or endorsed by any university, NSA or government unless we say so.

• Dues amounts, elections, votes, events and membership rules belong to each NSA.
• Leaders can see information about their members. They may use it only to run their NSA, and must not sell it, publish it or use it for anything else.
• Leaders are responsible for what they publish on their NSA’s public page and for what they collect through its forms.
• Your NSA membership lasts as long as your account. It ends when your account closes.

Your content

What you post stays yours. You give NepLink a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, show and share it as needed to run NepLink, including with the audience you chose. That licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we must keep and things others have already shared.

You’re responsible for what you post, and you must have the right to post it.

No tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users

You must not post or do any of the following:

• Harassment, threats, bullying, hate speech or discrimination.
• Sexual content, or anything that sexualizes a minor.
• Violence, or encouragement of self-harm.
• Naming, exposing or spreading rumors about private people, including in anonymous posts.
• Scams, fake listings, fake events, or pretending to be someone else.
• Illegal activity, or anything that infringes someone else’s rights.
• Spam, scraping, or attempts to break, overload or get around the security of NepLink.

Our Community Guidelines explain these rules in more detail. You can report content and block people in the app. We review reports and aim to act on them within 24 hours. We may remove content and may warn, limit, suspend or remove accounts, with or without notice.

Anonymous posts

Features such as Confessions hide your name from other people, not from NepLink. Automated checks, including AI, review these posts. Being anonymous doesn’t excuse breaking these terms.

Events and tickets

Hosts are NSAs, organizers and businesses. Unless an event says otherwise, NepLink isn’t the host. The host is responsible for the event, including its details, safety, permits, food and any change or cancellation. Check with the host about allergies. You go to events at your own risk.

A ticket admits one person under the host’s rules. You can send a ticket to a friend where the app allows it. Once they accept, the old code stops working, and any refund still goes to the original buyer.

Payments, fees and refunds

• Stripe. Payments made in NepLink are processed by Stripe, and Stripe’s terms also apply. People who receive payouts must also accept Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement and give Stripe the details it asks for.
• Fees. Where NepLink charges a fee, the total is shown before you pay.
• Refunds. Each event shows its refund policy, set by the host. Unless the host’s policy says otherwise, refund requests go to the host, who decides them. If an event is cancelled, your ticket becomes eligible for a refund. Card refunds usually appear within 5 to 10 business days.
• Dues paid outside NepLink. If you pay dues by another method and upload proof, the payment is between you and your NSA. NepLink doesn’t handle or guarantee that money.
• Hosts and NSAs. You’re responsible for honoring your refund policy, for your own taxes, and for handling money properly. We may hold or delay a payout while we review a risk, a dispute or a change to payout details.

Payment features may not be available everywhere or at all times.

Airport pickups

Airport pickups are a favor between members of an NSA. They’re not a taxi or rideshare service.

• Drivers are volunteers approved by an NSA’s board, not by NepLink. They don’t work for NepLink.
• NepLink doesn’t run background checks and doesn’t check any driver’s licence, insurance, vehicle or driving record. We don’t guarantee that a driver will turn up.
• Pickups are free. Don’t charge for them.
• Drivers must hold a valid licence and insurance and follow the law.
• You decide whether to accept a ride. Tell someone your plans, and have another way home in mind. If you’re in danger, call your local emergency number.

Mentors and help

Mentors and helpers are volunteers sharing their own experience. What they say isn’t professional advice. For immigration, legal, medical, financial or academic decisions, check with a qualified person or your university’s international student office. NepLink doesn’t check what helpers tell you.

Housing, opportunities and businesses

Listings come from users and others, and we don’t check them. NepLink isn’t a landlord, broker, employer or agent, and isn’t part of any deal you make. See a place before you pay for it, and be wary of anyone who wants money up front.

AI features

Some features, including housing search and post reading, use AI. It can be wrong, so check anything important yourself.

Your safety

NepLink doesn’t screen its members beyond the checks described in the app, so use care when you meet people in person. NepLink isn’t an emergency service. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

The NepLink app and name

We own NepLink, including its software, design and name. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. Don’t copy, resell or reverse engineer it, or use our name in a way that suggests we endorse you.

Apple

If you downloaded the app from Apple’s App Store, these points also apply:

• These terms are between you and NepLink, not Apple. NepLink, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its content.
• Your licence is to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, under the App Store’s usage rules.
• Apple has no duty to provide maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the price you paid for the app, if any. Apple has no other warranty duty.
• NepLink, not Apple, is responsible for claims about the app, including product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection and intellectual property claims.
• You confirm that you aren’t in a country under a U.S. government embargo and aren’t on a U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• You must follow third-party terms that apply when you use the app.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Changing or ending the service

We may change, pause or stop any part of NepLink. You can delete your account in the app at any time, and the Privacy Policy explains what happens to your information. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or put others at risk. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as the disclaimers and limits below, still apply after your account closes.

Disclaimers

NepLink is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t promise that NepLink will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that information from members, hosts or listings is accurate.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, NepLink isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill. NepLink also isn’t liable for the conduct of members, hosts, drivers, helpers, businesses or NSAs, online or in person.

Our total liability for any claim relating to NepLink is limited to the greater of US$100 or the fees you paid to NepLink in the 12 months before the claim. Ticket and dues amounts that go to a host or NSA aren’t fees paid to NepLink.

Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.

If your actions cause a claim

If a claim against NepLink comes from your content, your event, your handling of money or members’ information, or your breaking these terms or the law, you agree to cover NepLink’s resulting losses and reasonable legal costs, to the extent the law allows.

Disputes and governing law

If you have a dispute with us, please email us first and give us 30 days to try to sort it out. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any court case must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Virginia, and you and NepLink agree to their jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere, you keep any consumer protections that your local law doesn’t let you give up.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we’ll tell you in the app or by email. If you keep using NepLink after that, the new terms apply.

The rest of the legal details

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still apply. If we don’t enforce something, we can still enforce it later. You can’t transfer these terms without our permission. We can transfer them if NepLink is sold or merged. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and NepLink about using NepLink.
